  1. Begin by heating vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot over medium heat to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine all-purpose flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Pour buttermilk into a separate shallow bowl for dipping the onion rings.
  4. Take each onion ring, dip it into the buttermilk, and then coat in the flour mixture.
  5. Dip them back into the buttermilk and dredge in panko breadcrumbs.
