  • 1 medium Onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 cup Mushrooms finely chopped, optional
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Mustard or horseradish
  • 2 teaspoons Thyme or Parsley fresh
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
For the Pastry
  • 1 sheet Puff Pastry thawed
  • 1 large Egg for egg wash

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add some oil and sauté onions and garlic for 3-4 minutes until soft.
  3. Add mushrooms if using, cooking until moisture is released, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the minced beef, season with thyme, salt, and pepper, and cook for 6-8 minutes until browned.
  5. Stir in mustard and breadcrumbs, mix well, and transfer to a bowl to cool slightly.
  6. Roll out puff pastry into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick and place cooled beef mixture in the center.
  7. Fold pastry over the filling, sealing the edges tightly, seam side down on the baking sheet.
  8. Beat an egg and brush it on the top of the pastry, optionally score the top with a knife.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and flaky.
  10. Allow to rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
