  • 2 cloves Garlic, mashed Garlic powder is a lesser substitute.
  • 6 Mushrooms, finely chopped Shiitake adds a wonderful flavor.
  • ½ teaspoon Baking Soda Optional for a lighter texture; omit if you don't have it.
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame Oil Vegetable or grapeseed oil are suitable swaps.
  • 2 tablespoons Mirin (or Shaoxing wine) White wine is a good alternative; omit for a lighter taste.
  • 2 tablespoons Oyster Sauce For vegan, use soy sauce or hoisin for sweetness.
  • ¼ cup Low Sodium Soy Sauce Tamari works for gluten-free.
For Assembly
  • 1 package Wonton Wrappers Dumpling wrappers can be used as an alternative.
For Garnish
  • Green Onions Fresh herbs like cilantro or parsley can also work.
  • Chili Oil Hot sauce can be a milder alternative.

Equipment

  • Steamer
  • ramekins

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, combine ground pork, chopped napa cabbage, sliced green onions, minced ginger, mashed garlic, finely chopped mushrooms, and baking soda if desired. Add sesame oil, mirin, oyster sauce, and soy sauce. Mix well until fully incorporated.
  2. Preheat your steamer and prepare 4 ramekins. Add a spoonful of the pork filling mixture at the bottom of each ramekin.
  3. Layer the wonton wrappers over the pork filling in each ramekin, pressing them down. Continue layering until nearly full, leaving space for more wrappers and steaming water.
  4. Pour approximately ⅓ cup of water into each ramekin. Place two more wonton wrappers on top and seal tightly.
  5. Place the ramekins into the preheated steamer, ensuring they are upright. Steam for about 20 minutes until the filling is cooked and wrappers are tender.
  6. Remove the ramekins from the steamer using tongs. Garnish with chili oil and chopped green onions. Serve warm.
