Step-by-Step Instructions for Best Crack Green Beans
  1. In a large skillet, over medium heat, cook 6 slices of bacon until crispy, about 6-8 minutes. Remove bacon and reserve the fat in the skillet.
  2. Add 1 medium chopped onion to the skillet with the bacon fat. Sauté until golden and translucent, about 4-5 minutes.
  3. Bring a pot of salted water to boil. Blanch 1 lb of green beans for about 4-5 minutes. Drain and plunge into an ice bath.
  4. Return to the skillet with the sautéed onions. Add 2 tablespoons of butter, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder. Stir until melted and bubbly, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the cooked green beans and reserved bacon to the skillet. Toss to coat in the glaze and simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  6. Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with additional bacon bits or cracked black pepper if desired.
