  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil Vegetable oil can be used in a pinch.
  • 1 cup Chopped Onion Shallots are a milder alternative.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Fresh cloves preferred.
  • 1 tsp Cumin Swap with coriander if desired.
  • 1 tsp Paprika Smoked paprika enhances flavor.

For the Pockets
  • 4 pieces Pita Bread Gluten-free options available.
For the Toppings
  • 1 cup Lettuce (Romaine or Iceberg) Spinach or arugula can also work.
  • 1 medium Tomato Diced bell peppers can be a substitute.
  • 1 medium Cucumber Zucchini can be used as an alternative.
  • 1/2 cup Feta Cheese Omit for dairy-free option or try vegan cheese.
  • 1/2 cup Tzatziki Sauce Store-bought or homemade.

Method
 

Cooking Instructions
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 chopped onion and 2 minced garlic cloves, and sauté for about 3 minutes until the onion becomes translucent and soft.
  2. Add 1 pound of ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart while it cooks. Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of cumin and 1 teaspoon of paprika, season with salt and pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the beef is well-browned.
  3. Warm your pita bread in the microwave for 15-30 seconds or heat in a dry skillet until pliable. Keep the pitas covered with a kitchen towel.
  4. Slice each pita open to create a pocket. Stuff generously with the cooked ground beef mixture, lettuce, diced tomatoes, and cucumber. Add crumbled feta cheese and a dollop of tzatziki sauce.
  5. Serve immediately with extra tzatziki on the side for dipping.
